By default the service uses the TCP Protocol to connect you to the Internet. Streaming media services are getting very good at finding VPN services and blocking them. You can potentially still get around these by opening your app, go to Settings > Advanced > Protocol and change to UDP or Stealth Mode and you may find you can then get those services.
On the Android app (and on Chromebook) you can simply change the Port
On iOS these options are not available.
